Meet the Corporate Officers

J. Michael Lent, CPCU, AIC, President

Mike joined CJW as President in January 2018. He is responsible for all aspects of CJW’s operations and business strategy. Mike began his career in claims in 1988 as an adjuster trainee based in Tampa, Florida. Since then he has held positions of increasing responsibility around the country culminating in Chief Claim Officer appointments at two major multiline P&C carriers. Included in this progression was a role managing a team of 195 professionals consisting of inside examiners and field adjusters. Mike graduated with distinction from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. He also holds the CPCU and AIC designations through The Institutes.

Steven Hastings, CPCU, AIC, Senior Vice President

Steve was appointed Senior Vice President of CJW in June 2015. Prior to joining CJW, he served as Vice President of Operations with Sedgwick. In his current role, Steve is responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of CJW. Steve began his career in the insurance claim business as a property adjuster in 1986. Throughout his career, he has held various positions of increased responsibility with both insurance carriers as well as with Third Party Administrators. He has also been involved in leading multi-line claim offices in both personal and commercial lines. Steve earned his CPCU designation in 1995 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in management.

Leah Pasternak, Director of Financial Services

Leah entered the property and liability side of the insurance industry after working in the Workers’ Compensation field for over six years with a managed care company. She joined CJW in 2008, originally working with the CAT team on billing Hurricane Ike losses. Leah transitioned to the Accounting department in 2009 where she now leads all London bordereaux reporting in addition to managing all aspects of the Accounting department including escheated property monitoring and compliance, loss fund management and reconciliations for London contracts. She also manages an experienced team of seven CJW accounting professionals. Leah earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Strayer University.

Richard “Skip” Abrams - Vice President Claims

Skip began his career in 1981 with a national independent adjusting firm in West Palm Beach Florida where he was trained as an all lines adjuster. Skip joined CJW in 1983 as a field adjuster, where he progressed to Manager of our Miami office from 1987 through 1998. He was the leader of our Miami office through numerous tropical storms and through the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. In 1998 Skip was promoted to TPA Manager and led TPA operations through the monumental 2004 and 2005 storm seasons. In 2016, Skip returned to our TPA unit as Director of Total Performance. In his current role of Vice President, Claims, Skip now oversees CJW’s property and casualty claims with an emphasis on the London markets. Skip holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Flagler College.  

Robert Floyd, Vice President

Robert (Bob) Floyd has been in the adjusting business in excess of 45 years. Bob began his career with Florida Farm Bureau in 1969 and became an independent adjuster in 1971 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He joined Dick Wiggins & Associates in 1979, which in turn became Cramer Johnson Wiggins & Associates in 1985. He held a number of positions including overseeing two insurance carriers as TPA. In 1993 he moved to the corporate office in Orlando, Florida to concentrate on the London Market and formation of TPA Operations. He has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Marketing from Troy University.

Jay Voelpel, CPCU, AIC, Director of Client Services

Jay is a native of Orlando, Florida and has spent his entire professional career in the claims adjusting business. He is multi-line trained, holds a Florida Adjuster License, and is very active in a number of professional trade organizations, including former President of the Orlando Claims Associations. Jay graduated from Florida Southern College with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration / Marketing before continuing his professional studies, completing both the AIC, and CPCU designations. As Director of Client Services, Jay's focus is on client relations, as well as, working closely with all stakeholders to provide solutions on current programs and identifying new opportunities.
